Is anyone going to the Formal Ball that Ingrid is organising?
(There have been leaflets at the back of the hall and I think it was advertised in a weekly bulletin.)
It was one of those snowfalls you'll never forget. Millions of white snowflakes filled the air. The boy stood by the door. A stranger to snow. His eyes were blank. Unaware. His body clueless. The moment arrived. He stepped outside. Wonder filled the air.

Still Grumpy
Just remembered...
...Or maybe it was because at the restaurant I had to drink through a straw with a napkin at hand to catch the dribbles running down my numb chin.

Grumpy
Feeling decidedly grumpy today! That doesn't really happen that often to me (feel free to comment!)
Maybe it's that there is so much build up to the festive season, and the length of build up doesn't really match the event!
Or maybe it's that I had two fillings today and have got another one tomorrow, so I've spent the whole day with a numb mouth - restricted talking and eating - the only two things I know how to do!
Or maybe it' s that we then went out for lunch with family....the chosen omelette wasn't that exciting (though at least it wasn't soup!) then wandered around a freezing cold Whitby.
Or maybe it's because I can't decide when to go back 'home' - what's the point of staying here longer? / What's the point in going back?
See grumpy, grumpy, grumpy.
It's not a good look!
Bring on normality. At least we all know where we stand then!

Decisions
Mum asked me today should we put 'Roses' in the christmas-chocolates-dish or 'Heroes'.
How do you make a decision like that?

Frustrated Conviction.
I've just watched a TV program on channel 4 called 'The Secret Milllionaire'. Basically it's about a guy who earns mega-bucks through his own business in London, his need to teach his 20 year old son a thing or two about life and his wish to donate some of his millions to deserving people who will help make a difference.
The progam followed him and his son moving onto a needy estate in Middlesbrough (see the connection?!) Nobody knew about their money, but for 10 days, they became part of the commuity and eventually chose three different causes to donate £10,000 to.
1) a hairdressers, where the owner has a wish to train as many young people as she can so they can get a job
2) a church luncheon club which serves meals to lots of people who otherwise would not get a hot meal
3) a rehabilitation centre for homeless people
But rather than thinking it was great, it just really wound me up.
What am I doing?
Here I am, apparently a Christian....sorry Salvationist....saved to serve....
....Saved to serve?????
Pah! What serving am I actually doing?
How am I actually making a difference, not with my cash (hmmm, that would be tricky!) but with me, my talents, my faith in action?
I had the absolute privilidge on Monday being at my Grandma's funeral. During the service, again and again it was said how she made a difference to people's lives because of her faith. That's how people knew her, that's why it was standing room only, she wasn't just a nice person - she had a faith...and it made a difference.
I had a privilidge over all my cousins (and there's lots of us) who were also present on Monday. Ok, they knew Grandma, but unlike them, I knew Grandma's faith and ok, you can't separate the two, but I saw something in her that they never saw. I saw her as the YPSM, I saw her at the mercy seat, I saw leading people to Christ. I saw her giving people their first bible. I saw her talking to and sitting with the person who everyone else avoided, even up to the end of her life. I saw her faith in action week after week after week at the corps and outside.
Kind of two blogs in one there, but there is a link.
What difference am I making?
If I was to die tomorrow, would it matter?
My faith is helping me, without it I would not have had the strength to get through these past weeks in quite the same way, but isn't my faith about more than that? But surely it shouldn't stop at me and God?
Saved to serve?

It could have been the Chuckle Brothers
I went with my Dad this evening to buy our Christmas tree. While in B&Q Dad decided that he also needed to buy a new fluescent (spelling?!) tube for the kitchen light. We got to the car (mine, therefore a tad on the small side) put the back seats down, laid out a sheet to protect the fabric (!) and placed the pine in the car.
Driving out of the car park, singing along to the tunes, we hear "sssssssss", Dad and I look at each other "sssssss", it carries on. I turn off the radio, thinking that was the cause ........but still "sssssss". Dad leapt out of the car while it was still rolling (I had started to slow down!) and lifted up the boot in complete panic, trying to work out what this "ssssssss" noise could be and where it was coming from.
Panic over, it was the Christmas tree resting on my de-icer (minus a lid 'cos it broke). Now with de-icer soaking into the car and the smell, well, indescribable, panic over, windows down, we prepared to journey home.
Dad shut the boot. Opened the passenger door. Climbed in. Closed the door. SMASH.
The fluresent tube got in the way and went to fluresent tube heaven. Pieces everywhere. My head straight in my hands, trying to hide the hysterical laughter, waiting to see Dad's response!
Reversed back to B&Q, Dad went in, explained what had just happened (he told the truth and everything!)pleaded Christmas blessings and was given a free fluresent tube in place of the one he/we broke.
The Christmas Spirit is alive in B&Q!

Actions and/or words
Something happened to me today which I wanted to share, having read Sarah's blog.
A teacher who only does supply in our school came in today....to see me. She had a few words to say, very kind ones, and very appropriate but she brought with her some bread and butter pudding! She had made it at home this morning and having spoken to her daughter last night (who also happens to be a teacher at our school) decided that she would bring me a piece.
Apparently it cures all aliments, physical and emotional (she is a tad excentric!)
But how lovely is that? She could have waited until she next came into school to see me, she could have left the bread and butter pudding behind....but she didn't.
Her actions made her words mean even more.
